چکیده
Abstract Palmaria palmata , commonly referred to as dulse is a well-known and highly valued red macroalga distributed along the North Atlantic shores within latitude range of approximately 40 80 °N. It species commercial importance with historical records use food dating back several centuries current harvesting by hand-picking on foreshore in Western Europe well Canada (New Brunswick Nova Scotia) USA (Maine). Because demand for P. increases future sustainable developments cannot rely solely wild-harvested biomass, significant efforts have been made research industrial actors cultivate species. The low rates spore release germination, high mortality epibiont contaminations remain major bottlenecks point towards need optimized hatchery methods enable upscaling biomass production. present review summarizes available knowledge related biology, including unique life history among Rhodophyta, ecology nutrient composition quality food. Recent advances taxonomy cultivation techniques are reported status regulations harvest wild populations. An outlook perspectives using also given.

Enzymatic Pre-Treatment Increases the Protein Bioaccessibility and Extractability in Dulse (Palmaria palmata)
Several common protein extraction protocols have been applied on seaweeds, but extraction yields have been limited. The aims of this study were to further develop and optimize existing extraction protocols and to examine the effect of enzymatic pre-treatment on bioaccessibility and extractability of seaweed proteins. Enzymatic pre-treatment of seaweed samples resulted in a three-fold increase i...
متن کاملAngiotensin I Converting Enzyme Inhibitory Peptides Derived from Phycobiliproteins of Dulse Palmaria palmata.
We examined the inhibitory activity of angiotensin I converting enzyme (ACE) in protein hydrolysates from dulse, Palmaria palmata. The proteins extracted from dulse were mainly composed of phycoerythrin (PE) followed by phycocyanin (PC) and allophycocyanin (APC). The dulse proteins showed slight ACE inhibitory activity, whereas the inhibitory activity was extremely enhanced by thermolysin hydro...
متن کاملPalmaria palmata (Dulse) as an unusual maritime aetiology of hyperkalemia in a patient with chronic renal failure: a case report
INTRODUCTION Hyperkalemia is rare in individuals with normal renal function, regardless of dietary intake. This is due to the ability of the kidneys to adapt to increasing serum potassium concentrations. In patients with renal compromise, potassium homeostasis can become impaired. Palmaria palmata (dulse) is an edible seaweed known to be very rich in potassium. We report a case of hyperkalemia ...
متن کاملBiosorption of Cu(II) Ions from Aqueous Solution by Red Alga (Palmaria Palmata) and Beer Draff
In this study, the ability of red alga (Palmaria palmata) and beer draff (brewery waste) for Cu(II) removal was investigated. The influence of factors, such as pH, initial copper concentrations, and contact time, were also studied. Results showed the adsorption process was strongly dependent on the pH value and initial concentration. The optimum pH value was in the range of 5-6. The Langmuir is...
متن کاملPhylogeographic analysis of the red seaweed Palmaria palmata reveals a Pleistocene marine glacial refugium in the English Channel.
Phylogeography has provided a new approach to the analysis of the postglacial history of a wide range of taxa but, to date, little is known about the effect of glacial periods on the marine biota of Europe. We have utilized a combination of nuclear, plastid and mitochondrial genetic markers to study the biogeographic history of the red seaweed Palmaria palmata in the North Atlantic. Analysis of...
